Whole and Some Nutrition
Healthy eating and nutritional advice for women

About
Hola! Thank you for spending some time doing what I would call "curiousing" around my website. I hope you find some useful information, tips, inspiration(?) or anything that lightens your day. Here is more of who I am.

My Story
My name is Elisa, I have been a nutritionist for more than 15 years and I'm Mexican :)

I studied my BSc in Nutrition and Food Science in Mexico and then was given the opportunity to go to Glasgow University to pursue an MSc in Human Nutrition. It was during this course that I felt an instant click with Public Health Nutrition (an area that deals with Nutrition at a population level) and got a specialisation in this area. A couple of years later I came back to England to do a PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology at Leeds University. All of these experiences equipped me, amongst others, to better understand how evidence (or the best information around a topic) is produced and how to use it when designing, implementing or evaluating any initiative as well as reviewing any topic.

For years, I have collaborated in projects around nutrition, food choice and behaviour change both in Mexico and the UK which have allowed me to worked with a variety of people from different ages and backgrounds and understand the challenges of putting theory into practice.
Throughout my career, my most valuable and fulfilling activities have been interacting with and influencing individuals to make healthier choices around their food, physical activity and wellbeing, this is where everything I have learnt, makes sense and fulfils me. Understanding from a personal perspective how difficult it can be to let go of "diets", stop worrying solely about your weight and/or feeling bad about your body, I have embarked on a journey to support women -with my knowledge and expertise- to look at Nutrition and healthy eating in a different way, and find freedom and enjoyment in doing so.
Being involved and understanding for many years the impact of the wider environment (society, food retail, cultural norms, agriculture and political system) on our food and/or health choices has taught me that often change is not as simple as to say "It's all about your mentality", "You just need to be motivated" (these factors are important but will not be the silver bullet if your surrounding environment is not supportive or if you don't know where to start).

I have other stories to tell around my experience, but would like to share that in my free time I enjoy: being outdoors (even on the freezing cold days in England), swimming, cooking new recipes, dancing, listening to music and podcasts, watching a good series or film and spending time with my husband, baby girl, friends and Bubu (my cat).

If any of what I have written here has resonated with you and your journey (or needs), I'd love to hear from you!
